How the International Art and Writing Project Works
Our Main Goals for IAWP
To engage and connect students worldwide so they can inspire one another, expand their horizons, and learn about other cultures through their creative works.
Step 1: Registration and Scheduling
Email the Beyond Basics Representative about your interest in participating in this project.
The Beyond Basics Representative will email the School Lead a brief overview of expectations and lesson plans for IAWP.
The School Lead will send the Beyond Basics Representative a roster of participants (there is no limit to the number of student participants).
Once all requirements are met, the IAWP program can begin.
Once a start date is confirmed and materials are received, the School Lead will discuss the theme with the student participants.
Students will draw and paint using acrylic paint on a canvas to create art that best represents the theme.
Students will write an “Artist's Statement” describing their painting and the reason for their chosen image. These statements will be affixed to the back of the canvas.
Once the art is complete, the School Lead will photograph and/or scan the image and the artist's statement and send it to the Beyond Basics representative. If possible, photos of the students with their art should also be taken and sent to Beyond Basics (the School Lead will ensure all photos provided include the first and last name of the student).
Step 3: The International Writing Project
Participating students may also choose a prompt and write a short paragraph on a subject.
The School Lead will assist the students in editing their essays. Once the essays are complete, the Student Lead will provide photographs of the essays to the Beyond Basics Representative.
Step 4: Connecting with Others
Upon receiving all artwork and essays, the Beyond Basics Representative will send participant certificates and a poster to each location.
The Beyond Basics Representative will create a PowerPoint presentation displaying the student artwork and send it to the School Lead.
Selected artwork from around the world will also be shared on the IAWP website.
